I think I can safely say I've tried on every pair of blank ankle boots that's out there. Finding the perfect ones has become somewhat of a subliminal lifelong quest. I keep buying black ankle boots thinking they'll be The One, and after a season, they're muscled to the side to make way for something newer and shinier (sometimes literally—my last attempt was in patent leather). The Matisse 'Nugent' bootie came into my life initially in leopard print, and after stomping around in it for a few months and realizing the superior comfort to every other wedge heel out there, a second addition was inevitable. I was looking for a shoe with just enough height to feel in charge and enough of a pointed toe to have an edge, and I have a feeling this pair is going to hold the title of Perfect Black Ankle Boots for a lot longer than any other contender.
